Bernadette Soubirous

About This Puzzle

• A gentle, vintage-style portrait of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes: for anyone moved by the story of faith behind one of the world's great pilgrimage sites.

Bernadette is shown in prayerful contemplation, holding a crucifix and rosary. Born to a poor family in Lourdes in 1844, she reported 18 apparitions of a lady in the grotto of Massabielle in 1858, who named herself with the words "I am the Immaculate Conception." Questioned by officials, Bernadette replied simply: "I am charged with telling you, not with making you believe." She was canonised in 1933.
